What is MIB?
Management information base (MIB) is a tree-structured virtual database used form managing network devices and entities. This database can be updated with MIB modules that come with the managed device to enable better view of SNMP data. MIB modules contain a description of the object hierarchy on the managed device, as well as syntax and access privileges for each variable in MIB.
MIB Managers - What can you do with them?
MIB managers are used for device monitoring across company network, configuration of SNMP servers and for MIB browsing.
MIB managers allow you to view, search and operate data available through SNMP agent on a managed device (e.g. router). You can load MIB modules, walk thorugh MIB tree to look at the definitions and search MIB database. You can requests SNMP operations (GET, GETNEXT, GETBULK and SET) for a particular variable in the MIB of an SNMP managed device. The SNMP output will bi provided in the tabular form.
